Surfing's Past and Future

Somewhere in surfing's past among the royal blue waves that grace the shores of Hawaii, a mellow Waikiki Beach Boy decided it might be easier to paddle his surf board using a canoe paddle. This activity blossomed and faded only to be resurrected in recent years by a core group of athletes and watermen who are looking for something new.

This doesn't seem to be your standard rip-off surf fad; on the contrary, stand up paddle surfing is a nod back to the Hawaiian old school with a eye on surfing's horizon. High speed paddling, cross-training, and major design breakthroughs are setting up this newest waveriding approach as a viable division of the surfing empire.
