The Eternal Vortex of Surf Blogging

Tuesday June 24, 2008
Surf Blogging…Yikes! The concept of thinking that your every miniscule thought is in some way interesting is a concept that at first seemed alien. Then it dawned on me that as a surfer, even though I pretend to be diametrically opposed to such things, I love a little surfing exposure…You know, maybe someone caught a glimpse of that barrel the other morning or someone commented that that last wave was pretty good (don’t even try to say you don’t like that too). Add that to the fact that I am freelance writer. Yeah, a writer who makes his living off making my words, thoughts, and passion known to the world. In retrospect, I’m much more narcissistic than I thought (Case in point, how many times does the previous paragraph include the pronoun “I”?)

Maybe, blogging isn’t so hard. Perusing other surfing blogs makes one realize that everyone has something unique to say. Sometimes interesting, sometimes trite, sometimes strange, but mostly always personal and real. They’re like little pockets of human existence adrift in a vast universe of information, a desolate sea of inhumanity if you will (notice not a single first person pronoun).

That said, do I have anything of importance to offer the world of surfing today via this here blog? I refuse to mention some actor’s so-called surf bros in a brawl with paparazzi or even a mention of the updated ASP ratings (although here is a link if you’re interested) or even a detailed play-by-play of my last surf session. No, no…today is about just checking out the surf blogs and realizing that there are loads of other surfers jumping on their computers after a session or late at night as they dream about a dawn session, just wanting to connect. Uhg! A surfing blog about surf blogs? I think the virtual universe just folded in on itself…
