This past week in surfing saw Damien Hobgood claim victory over world champ Andy Irons at the Quicksilver Pro Fiji. Some notable moments during the competition included a ferry accident which postponed heats for a day. Also, wiz-kid Taj Burrow was defeated by none other than former world champ Tom Carroll while Tim Curran made a semi final appearance. Damien’s brother CJ moves closer to grabbing another title by placing equal 3rd. Solid 8 ft. barrels made every surfer a winner, but Andy Irons remains the man in front in the on the World Championship Tour.

Back in the states, Orange County won the inaugural California Cup. Led by Head Coach Mike Parsons and suppoted by standout Timmy Reyes, OC lost only a single match to Ventura in this innovative new era of surfing competition. This new team oriented format is the breainchild of Brad Gerlach and has been hailed by industry heavyweights as breath of fresh air that may boost spectator enthusiasm and foster a new fan base for competitive surfing. Keep an eye out for this year's X-Games to see this new creture unveiled to the world.
