Leash

By Jay DiMartino, About.com

Definition: A surfboard leash is strap made of a rubbery plastic that is attatched at one end to your ankle by a velcro cuff and on the other end to your board with a string that ties into a fastener. Leashes are used to prevent the loss of your board. They are most useful in crowded areas where a lost board could be hazardous. Also, being left boardless in big waves could put you in great danger.
Also Known As: cord
Examples: After that nasty wipeout, my leash got wrapped around my leg and cut off my circulation.
