Swell on the Horizon for Billabong Pro Tahiti but No Contest Today

By Jay DiMartino, About.com

TEAHUPOO, Tahiti (Sunday, May 11, 2008) –The Billabong Pro Tahiti may be taking its time to get off the ground, but the world’s best surfers are finding plenty of ways to entertain themselves in the interim. They will have to do it all over again today

– the Billabong Pro Tahiti has been called off this morning.

According to official Billabong Pro Tahiti surf forecasters Surfline, conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday are looking good and there may be some action in the ocean behind that as well.

“It does look like we’ll see successive swells for the last few days of the waiting period,” Kevin Wallis of Surfline said, “Although the timing on the second, and larger, of the SW swells will be cutting it very close.”

Most of the ASP Top 45 joined the Teahupoo locals for a Donovan Frankenreiter concert held at the marina last night. Bruce Irons (HAW), Joel Parkinson (AUS) and 1999 ASP World Champion Mark Occhilupo (AUS) were among the surfers singing back-up to the delight of the crowd and their peers.

Another call on competition will be made tomorrow morning at 7am.

The Billabong Pro Tahiti will be webcast LIVE on
