By

Experience the Death-Defying Mystique of 40+ Foot Waves at the 2005 Mavericks Surf ContestR - DVD Available in Stores Nationwide October 25th. If you haven't witnessed the terror that this shark-infested beast can dish out, you are missing the boat.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Sept. 23, 2005 - Mavericks Surf Ventures, LLC today announced this week the 2005 Mavericks Surf ContestR DVD will be available in stores nationwide and online at www.maverickssurf.com on October 25, 2005. The DVD captures an all-star field of the world's most courageous surfers putting their lives on the line to paddle into some of the biggest waves on the planet for the coveted title and a $75,000 prize purse.

The 2005 Mavericks Surf Contest took place on March 2nd, on just 24 hours' notice, convening 28 of the best big-wave surfers in the world and 30,000 fans to the renowned spot located one-half mile off the coast of Half Moon Bay, Calif. Best known for its unique combination of giant waves that have peaked at more than 60 feet, frigid waters, dangerously shallow reefs and the occasional presence of great white sharks, the infamous location has played host to four historic contests and has been coined "the Super Bowl of big-wave surfing" by Sports Illustrated and site of "the most dangerous waves in the world" by CNN.

The DVD, capturing all of the action, devastating wipeouts and more, is considered the coming-of-age of surf DVDs. It combines the high production value and broad appeal of the NBC Sports broadcast (shot from seven water- and land-based cameras) with never-before-seen photos, interviews and video taken from the personal archives of the people who know Mavericks best. Epic moments include Shane Desmond's 48-foot wave that received the Billabong XXL Award for largest paddle-in wave ridden in the world during the 2004/2005 season, and a candid interview with surf legend Jeff Clark, the man who discovered Mavericks and rode it alone for 15 years. Every year the Mavericks Surf Contest grows in popularity, and in 2005 more than one million people in 50 countries watched the television broadcast. The DVD will be available from retail and online merchants such as Borders, Tower Records and Netflix on October 25, 2005 for $19.95 MSRP.
