Trunq SUB

Trunq (outer view)

Surf industry movers and shakers are all about solving common problems that we deal with daily. You’ve read my reviews of products that give surfers a place to lock away their keys, a spray that helps you slide out of your wetsuit, a heating pad that keeps you warm in the winter, a waterproof MP3 player, even a handy gizmo that wards off predatory sharks with sound waves. But here’s another quandary: Is there some way for a wave rider to cart around all his surf gear in his car without ruining the interior?
The folks at Trunq are on the case…literally.

They have designed the Trunq SUB (surf utility box) which primarily and handily organizes all your surf gear and provides a water tight space to keep your soaking clothes, towels, and wetsuit. But it’s also strong enough to use as a seat for chilling at the beach or slipping on your full suit. Even more, the Trunq SUB offers a changing pad, so your wetsuit doesn’t get all ragged and scuffed during those quick changes in the parking lot. The utility box even comes with a lock and cable feature that tethers the Trunq securely to a stationary object. That all sounds cool, but does it work?

Yeah, it does.

I took one for a few sessions and found it extremely functional. If you have to drive to your surf spots, then you know that there are many bits and pieces that accompany a trip to the get some waves. In reality, the purity of surfing is often riddled with accessories. Wax, leashes, fins, glasses, cell phones, wallets, wetsuits, and even a change of clothes are all standard fare for today’s surfers. And I’m no exception.

The Bottom Line

I found that the top tray keeps all my dry gear secure like a tool box for my surf junk, and the bottom section held my wet gear and easily kept both salt water and melting wax safely from my car’s interior. I found the Trunq to be helpful but not gratuitous or annoying. It doesn’t come off as a needless extra. Instead, it actually solves a real surf dilemma. Can you get along without it? Sure, we all have. However, the concept makes sense and does make commuting to and from the beach a much cleaner and less cluttered experience.
