The surf industry has created a whole new niche in the fashion world, especially for the young folks. Its sort of Adventure Chic. Luggage must live up to higher standards. The bottom line is that backpacks arent just for school supplies anymore. Since they must carry your electronic entertainment, sports goods, cash, and keys all the while being required to look damn smooth. Similarly, luggage cant just hold your shaving kit and clothes. A surfers needs are much more specific than that.
The Channel Series backpack and the Split Roller from Da Kine thread the line between function and fashion with a heavy nod towards Utilitarian Funk. Well, thats my term, but I feel its an apt description since the ample compartments, zippers, and pouches cater to a surfers real needs while the snazzy patterns and designs on their sturdy skin scream style and fun to everyone in the room.
The Channel Series Backpack
The specific sample I reviewed was spattered with pink and black floral print, perfect for the your more feminine rippers (But it comes in many other patterns). It also sports several added features not found in your average pack. For one, the Channel offers a zippered, insulated cooler pouch in which to keep snacks, wax, or even medicine. Also, you will find a small wax comb clipped next to pen and cell phone sleeves and a zippered pouch for sunglasses positioned high to keep them from getting crushed. A spacious main pouch, two mesh drink holders, a waterproof wetsuit insert, and a hidden skateboard strap round out the functional aspects of this pack.I found the many compartments to be a little overwhelming but also very well planned and implemented in that other packs I have reviewed seemed so jammed with extras that there wasnt much room for books or clothes. The Channel series offers everything for the adventure seeker as well as the bookworm.
