The Wet Dry Duffle from Dakine

Here’s the scenario: It’s the last day of your surf trip. The water is cold and the waves are going off. After finishing that final session, it’s time to bag up all the wet gear you have accumulated. You’ve got a full suit, maybe some booties, and a nasty, moist ball of towels and baggies. We all know it’s easy enough to find a trash bag, stuff it full of the smoldering moldy mess, and be on your way, but that’s no way to treat you expensive surf accessories.
As a remedy for the above situation, I am currently trying the Wet Dry Duffle bag from Dakine. Although many companies offer similar products, I have found Dakine to be superior in durability. Their prices are competitive, and (just for your information) their website is very user friendly, complete with music downloads and an interactive display.

Description

The Wet Dry Duffle measures in at 28 x 15 x 11 inches and weighs about 3 pounds empty. It boasts several zippered compartments, a tarp lined wax pocket, a clear vinyl hardware pocket, a padded shoulder strap, and most importantly, a seam sealed wetsuit compartment. My particular bag is black with camouflage embellishments, but the Wet Dry Duffle also comes in black and gray as well as charcoal and red.

The Trial

The morning I broke out the duffle was the same day that Tropical Storm Irene was churning off the coast. It was a warm, summer day, but I had to put this baby to use, so I packed her with a rash guard, wax, wetsuit top, sunglasses, towel, baggies, and a change of clothes for my post-session meal. There was plenty of space to spare. If my kids were still infants, I could have thrown in some bottles and diapers ta boot. The tarp lining could be suitable for storing medicine, soaps, or snacks since the thick canvass material keeps much of the heat from getting through. In fact, none of my wax melted while the bag baked in my truck. I don’t know if that was due to the duffle or some other atmospheric phenomenon.

After a full session, I returned to my truck and stuffed the canvass compartment with my wet gear, pushed my damp towel into the main pocket, and relished in the fact that all my accessories were securely packed in one place without any damp spots on my floorboard or my car seats.

The Review I found Dakine’s Wet Dry Duffle to be sturdy and functional. It’s plethora of space and compartments offered more than I really needed on the summer day of my test, but come wintertime, I could fill every canvass orifice. The Wet Dry Duffle would be essential on a surf trip since it provides a centralized storage space for all surf accessories whether they are hard, soft, wet, or dry. I foresee going on my next trip with nothing but my duffle and my surfboards.
