SG LOWERS PRO IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE BODY GLOVE SURFBOUT PRESENTED BYSG LOWERS PRO IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE BODY GLOVE SURFBOUT PRESENTED BY ADIO FOOTWEAR DRAWS INTERNATIONAL ATHLETES AND LOCAL RISING STARS TO COMPETE AT LOWER TRESTLES San Clemente, Calif., April 13, 2005 - SG Magazine is proud to announce the return of the SG Lowers Pro in conjunction with the Body Glove Surfbout presented by Adio Footwear, a four-star rated World Qualifying Series (WQS) event for women's professional surfing. The SG Lowers Pro, which will take place April 26-30 at Lower Trestles, San Clemente, California, is the first women's contest of the year for the Surfing America Pro Tour and the only professional women's contest held at Lower Trestles. With a considerable increase in young female athletes coming up the ranks, women's surfing in America is on the rise. Both industry and non-endemic sponsors have greatly contributed in the growth by creating more high profile contests in better locations and increasing the amount of money awarded to the winners of the contests. The SG Lowers Pro is a prime example of that growth. The event has risen to a four-star rating this year, meaning more points and more dollars awarded to the winners. With its premier location at Lower Trestles, the event has gained attention and support from some of the best talent in the world. "We are so proud to put our time and energy into this event as a way to support girls and showcase the fact that they are part of the best surfing going on in the world," says Christina Scannapiego from SG Magazine. "The upgrade to a four-star event seems only natural, as you will not find a better venue for a WQS event anywhere. We are not surprised that so many girls are coming out to compete. Our team cannot wait to witness all the action." The star-packed field of competitors features some of the most progressive surfers in the water today, including current number one-rated WCT surfer Megan Abubo, 2004 WCT World Champion Sofia Mulanovich and 2004 WCT runner-up Rochelle Ballard. This year there will also be some astounding fresh talent ready to charge the scene: both young and super-talented Karina Patroni and Erica Hosseini, 11-year-old Hawaiian wunderkind and defending 2004 runner-up Carissa Moore, and the newest members of the 'CT crew, high-flying Melanie Bartels and Australian Rebecca Woods, will no doubt be pushing the envelope. For the first time, this year's contest will be available to view online with streaming video and live scoring. Both will be available starting with the men's round of 64 and women's round of 32 at http://bodyglovesb.asglive.com.. In an effort to support surfing in America, Adio Footwear has signed on again this year as presenting sponsor, along with Arnette Eyewear, Giant Bikes and Hawaiian Tropic. And FUEL, the action sports television network will be on the beach filming the contest for an upcoming summer show, date TBA. |
