Mick Fanning was born June 13, 1982 in Penrith, NSW, Australia. Mick now lives in Tweed Heads, NSW, Australia.
Eugene, White Lightning
One of five children, Mick Fanning lost his older brother, Sean in a car accident. Mick dedicated his World Title to the memory of Sean. Mick is married.
Currently the holder of one ASP World Title, Mick has also won the following individual events: Rip Curl Pro, Bells Beach, Australia; Billabong Pro, Jeffreys Bay, South Africa; Quiksilver Pro, Coolangatta, Australia; Rip Curl Search, St Leu, Reunion Island; Hang Loose Pro, Santa Catarina, Brasil; Nova Schin Pro, Imbituba, Brasil; Quiksilver Pro, Hossegor, France.
Mick Fanning is a regular foot (surfs left foot forward). This puts him at a tuberiding advantage at right-handers like Jeffery's Bay, but has also helped him get vertical at lefts like St. Leu, Reunion Island. Mick's style is lightning fast (thus the name White Lightning) with lots of weight on the front foot, which accounts for his phenomenal down-the-line speed. Very few surfers (if any) ride with the precision and speed of Mick fanning.
