Question: Can Larger People Surf?
I am wondering if a larger person can surf? My wife and I both weigh around 230-240lbs... and dont want to waste our time or money if bigger people can't surf due to gravity or whatever. *although you would think we would be more bouyant ;O)*
Thanks, I just had to ask. It sure looks like a lot of fun, and I was thinking of buying this 9' board I have my eye on, but thought I would ask before I wasted my money.
Answer: Surfing does depend on gravity...but it's more about the defiance of it than anything else, so get a big ol' board and get out there. You will want a longboard (maybe 9 to 10 feet) with plenty of thickness (like 3+ inches), and you are off and riding. Start out by renting to see if surfing is something you really dig, and if so, get a used board for cheap and then beat the heck out it for a while. I have known Hawaiian guys easily as heavy as you folks that ripped hard. So set your sights high and go surfing...love to hear how you like it, so write back.
