Whether you're a regular or a goofy foot, you still need some style, and your stance is an important aspect. Your stance is how far apart you keep your feet when you are riding a wave.
Too wide a stance can take away from your maneuverability while too narrow can detract from your balance. The key is finding a middle ground by making sure your feet are perpendicular to the stringer of your board. Your stinger and the general midpoint of your deck are good reference points.
Center your body over the midpoint and the balls of your feet over the stringer. Whatever feels comfortable from there in terms of the width of your legs is good. Adjust your leg width based on what the waves dictate. Experimenting with different stance widths is healthy.
