We all know that slipping, slapping, and slopping a slathering fat dollop of sunscreen all over your bodice will help you avoid sunburn. But chances are that if you surf, you will get sunburned at some point.
And when you do, you can do a few things to lessen the redness and pain of sunburn.
Stay Cool
If your sunburn is not too bad, you can apply a cool compress with cold milk and water. Or apply Burow solution, which can be purchased at any drugstore. Burow solution is made with water and aluminum acetate and relieves itching and stinging of the skin and halts the growth of fungus.
Go Green
Break open an aloe plant and spread nature's sweet goo all over your sunburn, or simply pick up an aloe-based lotion at the local drugstore and rub it on your sunburn.
Soak It
Sit in a cool bath with fresh clean water, but avoid bubble bath and similar agents. Be careful not to rub your towel too hard. Not only will this hurt, but it will also dry your skin and make your sunburn hurt even worse.
Stay Covered
Keep yourself out of the sun until your sunburn fades and be sure to wear 30+ SPF sunscreen when you go surfing.
