Definition: The lip is the very top edge of a cresting wave. Depending on the wind direction, the lip of a wave can be razor perfect and pitching out or crumbly and soft. The lip is a focal point for many of surfing's modern maneuvers. Re-entries (off-the-lips), tail wafts, floaters, and aerials are all done on or around the lip.
