Beach Break

By , About.com Guide

Here is a classic beach break wave: short and steep!

Definition: A fast and normally steep wave that breaks over sand. Beach break waves are fun to surf because they usually break close to shore and offer fast and exciting surfing potential, but these waves are relatively short and often closeout (break completely) at the end.
Pronunciation: beech brake
Also Known As: sand bar waves, sand bottom waves
Examples: I usually ride my shortest board at the beach break because it turns quickly.
