Definition: This noun is part of a new crop of terms that includes the oft used "punt" to replace "launch". The word "gaff" has risen to replace "slash". A new term is needed mainly because the "re-entry" and the "cutback" are now combined into a sort of controlled rail-digging cutback high on the wave face at an almost beyond critical stage. So surfers are essentially doing something different, but not necessarily new. This term can also describe any maneuver that displaces massive amounts of water or disfigures the waves face in some way. It's all drips of onomatopoeia, if you listen.
Also Known As: gash, slash, ralp, shralp, slashback, cuttie, lip blast, fin gash
Examples: Jerry caught that wave from way out back and threw in a big gaff on the inside section.
