Sketchy

By Jay DiMartino, About.com

Definition: "Sketchy" is an adjective that can be utilized with any life-threatening situation, but in surfing, it is commonly used to describe any wave riding event in which one was sure that he/she was not going to make it out of. Barrels and drops are commonly termed "sketchy" as are paddle-outs and reefs and even gnarly locals.
Also Known As: gnarly (this one is falling out of favor though), critical, heinous
Common Misspellings: skechy, scechy
Examples: That last section was sketchy, but I pulled in, got a fat shack, and got spit out!
